Agents find James Zhong's stolen Silk Road bitcoins
Searching James Zhong's house in Gainesville, Georgia, US agents found about 50,491 bitcoins he had taken from Silk Road in 2012 by tricking its withdrawal system, held in an underground safe and on a small computer hidden in a popcorn tin. Zhong pleaded guilty to wire fraud and in April 2023 was sentenced to a year and a day in prison.

Bukele announces Bitcoin City
On the night of 20 November, El Salvador time, President Nayib Bukele announced plans for a "Bitcoin City" near the Conchagua volcano, powered by its geothermal energy, with value-added tax as its only tax. He said a bond to fund it would be offered in 2022, entirely in bitcoin.
