NovaBlock.
A Bitcoin mining pool run by NovaBlock Technologies, with offices in Hong Kong, San Jose and Beijing, that found blocks from August 2019 until February 2021, when it said Poolin was acquiring it.
About NovaBlock
NovaBlock was the Bitcoin mining poolMining poolA group of miners who share the work of finding blocks and split the rewards, so each gets paid steadily instead of rarely. of NovaBlock Technologies Co., Ltd. In 2020 the company said it was based in Hong Kong, with offices in San Jose in the United States, Calgary in Canada and Beijing, and that it also built data centres and developed mining chips; a year earlier the pool had given San Jose as its headquarters. It found its first block, 590,069, on 14 August 2019. Over its 18 months it found 968 blocks, about 1.2% of all blocks in that time.
It paid its miners by a scheme it called NovaPPS+: a set amount for each piece of work a miner sent, covering both the new bitcoin and the transaction fees, whether or not the pool found a block. Payouts went out once a day. So each NovaBlock block’s first transaction paid the whole reward to a NovaBlock address, and the pool paid its miners separately. These are payments to the pool’s miners, separate from the transactions confirmed inside the block. Its miners also earned Namecoin, a separate coin mined with the same work.
From November 2020 its blocks carried the words “taprootTaprootA 2021 upgrade that added Schnorr signatures and addresses starting bc1p, making complex payments cheaper and more private./bip9”, a public message of support for Taproot, an upgrade to Bitcoin’s rules that took effect in November 2021. On 5 February 2021 NovaBlock announced that Poolin, then one of the largest pools, was acquiring it, and that from 8 February all its miners’ computing power would switch to Poolin automatically. NovaBlock found its last block, 672,523, on 28 February 2021.

When it mined
Share of all mining over time
Weekly estimatesPeak 2.6%, in the week of 26 Aug 2019
Every week the pool found blocks, as its share of all Bitcoin mining. Estimates come from observed blocks, rather than a direct reading of the pool’s machines.

When a block containing your payment joins the Bitcoin blockchain, your payment gets its first confirmation. Later blocks add confirmations, whichever pool finds them. The pool name does not identify the sender or recipient of your payment.

Background comes from the sources below. Activity comes from the mempool-compatible API used by UTXOHub. Pool names are attributed using block tags and known reward addresses; they are not proof of an individual miner’s identity and may be incomplete or incorrect.
