Hierarchical Deterministic Wallets.

Lets a wallet grow a whole tree of keys from one starting value, so a single backup covers every key.

Older wallets made random keys and needed fresh backups as they made new ones. With BIP 32, one seed produces every key. Parts of the tree can be shared, and an extended public key (xpub) can make new addresses without being able to spend.
