Bitcoin becomes legal tender in El Salvador, 2021
5 years ago. El Salvador's Bitcoin Law came into force, making bitcoin legal tender, money that businesses must accept, alongside the US dollar. The government launched its Chivo wallet the same day.

US crypto market bill fails in the Senate
The US Senate voted 49-50 on a procedural motion to take up the Clarity Act, far short of the 60 votes needed to advance it. The bill would have set the first comprehensive federal rules for crypto markets, including making the CFTC the watchdog for crypto spot trading.
