What is a Bitcoin node?
A computer running Bitcoin software that checks every payment and block against the rules, and passes them on to others.
Nodes need no permission and trust no one: each checks everything for itself. That's what stops anyone, miners included, from breaking the rules.
Running your own node lets you check your own payments without relying on anyone else's word.
