Sent bitcoin to the wrong address: what to do
Check the full address and status. The sender cannot undo a confirmed payment; an unconfirmed one may have limited replacement options.
Check the full address and transaction status
Copy the transaction ID from the sending wallet or service and open the transaction. Compare the complete receiving address in its outputs with the address you intended to use; a similar beginning and ending is not enough. Check the actual output amount and whether the transaction is waiting or confirmed. If there is no transaction ID, ask the sending wallet or service whether anything has been broadcast.

Zero confirmations is not final. If you sent the payment, check whether your wallet offers a replacement or cancellation flow that can change the recipient. A replacement conflicts with the original by spending at least one of the same inputs and usually pays a higher fee. The original may confirm before the replacement, so neither cancellation nor confirmation is guaranteed. If another person or service sent it, only they can try the sender-side options. Do not send a second independent payment merely because the first disappears from an explorer: both could eventually confirm.
Understand replacements and fee increasesCan a Bitcoin transaction be cancelled? If it has confirmed, ask the recipient or custodial service
The sender cannot cancel or reverse a confirmed Bitcoin payment. If you know who controls the receiving address, ask them to return the funds in a new payment. If it is a deposit address controlled by an exchange or another custodial service, contact that service through its official app or website. Provide the transaction ID, the intended and actual receiving addresses, and the amount. It may be able to help only if it controls and can identify the deposit; recovery is not guaranteed. The blockchain does not provide a way to contact an otherwise unknown address owner.
Check whether the wrong network was used
Confirm the exact network in both the sending and receiving instructions. Bitcoin mainnet, Lightning and test networks are different. An individual Lightning payment does not appear as its own mainnet transaction, and test-network coins and transaction histories are separate from mainnet. If a service offers a wrong-network recovery process, follow only its official documentation or support route. An explorer cannot move a payment between networks, and recovery is not guaranteed.
Mainnet and test networksWhat is the Lightning Network?Reject guaranteed recovery and requests for wallet secrets
Treat anyone who guarantees recovery as a warning sign. Never give recovery words or private keys to a support agent, explorer or unsolicited website, and never enter them into an online key-import or recovery tool. Deliberately restoring your own wallet in trusted software you chose is a different situation. Use official support channels, and remember that paying someone does not make recovery certain.
