TripleMining.

A small Bitcoin mining pool with a weekly jackpot, which ran from June 2011 until it closed in April 2015 because it found too few blocks to pay its costs.

About TripleMining

TripleMining, at triplemining.com, was a public mining poolMining poolA group of miners who share the work of finding blocks and split the rewards, so each gets paid steadily instead of rarely. that opened on 28 June 2011; a member called MrSam announced it on the BitcointalkBitcointalkThe Bitcoin forum Satoshi Nakamoto opened in November 2009. Much of Bitcoin’s early history, from the pizza offer to Satoshi’s last post, happened there. forum. Its site named no company or people. It stood out for two things. Once a week one miner, chosen at random, won a jackpot. And members could build “minipools” by inviting friends: the pool set aside 1% of each block’s reward, shared part of it among members who had brought in friends, and put the rest into the jackpot.

In its later years it paid by PPLNS, pay per last N shares: when the pool found a block, the reward was shared among the miners who had done work in the 24 hours before. So each TripleMining block’s first transaction paid the reward to the pool, which then paid its miners. These were payments to the pool’s miners, separate from the transactions confirmed inside the block. By its own count it found more than 500 blocks. mempool.space credits it with 333, from April 2012, when its blocks began to carry its name.

On 19 April 2015, after finding blocks 352,791 and 352,799, TripleMining switched off its mining servers. It said its share of all mining had been shrinking for some time, so it found too few blocks to pay for its servers and the work of running it, and that warning miners beforehand would only have driven them away. Miners could withdraw their balances until the site closed on 1 July 2015.

What this means for your payment

When a block containing your payment joins the Bitcoin blockchain, your payment gets its first confirmation. Later blocks add confirmations, whichever pool finds them. The pool name does not identify the sender or recipient of your payment.

Sources and how to read the data

Background comes from the sources below. Activity comes from the mempool-compatible API used by UTXOHub. Pool names are attributed using block tags and known reward addresses; they are not proof of an individual miner’s identity and may be incomplete or incorrect.
