BIP-50

March 2013 Chain Fork Post-Mortem.

In use

Explains how one large block split the blockchain in two in March 2013, why it happened, and how it was fixed.

Older node software hit a database limit and rejected a valid block that newer software accepted, so the network followed two chains. Two mining pools switched back to older software so that one chain won again. It also lists what went right and the follow-up actions.
